“The real meaning of kirtana is that which comes from the heart…”

“M any think that fame is the unit by which a person’s proficiency in kīrtana is measured, and that if one is not technically talented, then he is not a good kīrtanīya, but this is not at all the case. The attainment of pratiṣṭhā is certainly not the true glories of kīrtana. A real kīrtana is one that is done only with the desire, the intention, to please the Lord and His devotees. If this desire is not there, it can never be considered kīrtana, despite any technical proficiency…….

The real meaning of kīrtana is that which comes from the heart and manifests in the form of words on the tongue. The real glory of kīrtana comes when one stays in the association of sādhus, and as a result of hearing from them, sincere prayers come from his tongue for the pleasure for the Lord and His devotees; not for attaining name and fame.”
