Devotee: It’s very easy to understand this point after the fact. But the occasions that I’m thinking of, there are a lot of, you know… supposedly quite advanced devotees…
Srila Gurudeva: I can understand what you are asking. Don’t feel embarrassed if I tell you something?
Srila Gurudeva: Don’t feel embarrassed, do you understand? Will you not feel embarrassed? Shall I tell you? Don’t find fault with others. Find fault with yourself. Find fault with yourself, don’t find fault with others—you understand? You cannot understand I think. See good in others, see bad in yourself. Don’t find fault with others, find fault with yourself. The first thing is you have committed a mistake therefore such a thing has happened. Caittya-guru is there—paramatma—Kṛṣṇa the Supreme Lord in the heart, He’s there in the heart. He knows your heart.
Srila Gurudeva: What you are whispering there in the heart He knows. You cannot cheat Him. You may outwardly on your lips be speaking very sweet, your outward dealings may be very nice, but inside… First I told you, don’t be a hypocrite, be simple—natural Vaisnava. But you have no simplicity in your heart. Duplicitousness, pretentiousness, crookedness, politics, so many nasty things are there in the heart. And you follow this logic—gaddalika srauta nyaya—jumping. Kṛṣṇa as caittya guru, paramatma knows you are not serious. You should be thinking, “How can I get a bona-fide guru? My aim of life is to get Kṛṣṇa—cent percent Kṛṣṇa.” Very serious… crying in the heart. There should crying in the heart—crying, crying, crying, crying. Kṛṣṇa will know, “Yes, this soul is crying for Me. This crying is most important. In Adi-purana Kṛṣṇa has said, “rudanti mama samvidhau.” “Rudanti “ means crying. Aham parikrto parikrita, I am purchased by him. Someone who cries before Me from the core of his heart, he purchases Me. Have you ever cried for it? Therefore I say you are not serious, you are superfluous, you are just following this logic—gaddalika srauta nyaya, that is your mistake. But you are not prepared to accept your mistake. Why do you find fault with others? Kṛṣṇa knows, “Oh, this fellow wants a cheater not a teacher.” So Kṛṣṇa provides a cheater, “Alright take a cheater.” So you are cheated. Do you understand? Kṛṣṇa knows the heart. You have never cried for it. Anyhow, you should admit that’s my bad karma, bad lot, my mistake, repent for it and cry. Cry before Kṛṣṇa, before Mahaprabhu, cry, cry, cry, from the core of your heart so They’ll shower mercy on you, and you’ll never be cheated. This is the process. It is a most important and serious thing. This is a personal relationship and a personal responsibility. It is not the responsibility of some other person, it is your personal responsibility. You are personally responsible for your activity. Why should someone else be responsible? It is your personal thing to accept a bona-fide guru—not a bogus guru, to get cent percent Kṛṣṇa—to make your life successful, not his life or that life or anybody’s life. This is a very deep confidential philosophy. Try to understand it.
