“SEWA Ashram Gopinath Bhavan” Video Documentary

Gopinath Bhavan – a temple in Vrindavan, India and an ashram for girls and women from different countries. They came here for different reasons, but with one purpose: to realize themselves, to find truth and love.

In the film are participating students of Nitya Lila pravista Om Vishnupad ashtotara-sata Sri Srimad Bhaktivedanta Narayana Goswami Maharaja, and was shot in 2010 by Jay Sri didi from Russia.

Although the film is in the Russian language, it still captures the loving mood of the sevaks and we wanted to share it with you anyway. Below is the English translation of the voice over script.
Thanks to Taruni dasi for providing us the information.

For the pleasure of our beloved spiritual master
Sri Srimad Bhaktivedanta Narayana Goswami Maharaja

[The boat] Haribol. My name is Jay Sri. This evening is most special. We have come together for this boat ride on the Yamuna river and to sing. It is like a transcendental journey, for by this boat we can cross this vast ocean of samsara, of material existence.

Here is Kunja-kalika, here is Vasanti, and here is Govinda-priya playing the mrdanga. And here is Sukadha.

Gopinath Bhavan is the name of the temple where our ashram is situated in the holy Sri Vrindavan Dham. Ladies from around the world come to reside here for some time. We have come from many diverse paths, but we now all share the same goal, to realize our self, Love and the Absolute. We practice bhakti-yoga, the yoga of devotion, under the guidance of our beloved spiritual master.

[Gurudeva’s photo] om visnupad Sri Srimad Bhaktivedanta Narayana Goswami Maharaja

[Gurudev and devotees] His mission is to spread love of the Supreme, Sri Krishna.

[Girls listening to the class] We call each other didi, or ‘sister’. Together we take care of the Deities; attend classes which are given by our seniors;

[Kunja cooking] cook for our Deities and after –

[Prasada seva] – honor their prasad.

[Office] And also we translate, transcribe, publish and distribute books which carry the massage of great saints, for those…

[Books] …who seek for the Truth and the meaning of life.

KITCHEN SEVA

Every day we cook for the Deities – Sri Sri Radha-Gopinatha and Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

[Kunja] Here Kunja-kalika is at the stove. She is our main cook. Her cooking is delicious.

[Panir] This is paneer, which will go into the sabji.

[Chatni] And this is tomato sweet and sour sauce which is called chatni.

[Pakoras] These are pakoras – vegetable slices in chickpea flower.

[Preparations] And finally here is the result of Kunja-kalika’s cooking art. And here is Kunja-kalika herself – smiling shyly. The girl serving prasadam is Rasesvari didi from Chile. And by the way, we almost never put chili in our preparations. Today was a South American kitchen. Kunja was cooking. And tomorrow it will be Russian. We welcome everyone for prasadam.

[Mrdanga class] This is the basic mrdanga beat, the foundation of all other beats. Look, Taruni is so excited. This is the first time she is playing the mrdanga. Kunja-kalika has now joined us, demonstrating a more complicated tune.

Indira

It’s very nice here. Not easy though.

[Cleaning the floor] Why have I come here?

I wanted to organize my life in such a way as to avoid engaging any material activities. Any. Only spiritual activities, twenty-four hours a day.

Indira 2

Because I stay in ladies ashram, my association is mostly with Vaishnavis. I’m surrounded mostly by ladies, all beautiful Vaishnavis.

[Vaijayanti mala, sunset] Very caring… I don’t receive anything but love from them. They tolerate us, but not in the way one usually tolerates,

[Indira] internally tense and externally tolerating. And they just patiently witness us growing.

[Ganga devi puja] They give us chance to grow, engaging us in Guru-seva, not forcing us. But they consider each one’s opinion and try to find compromise to let each one to be happy. They really want us to be happy.

BOAT

By this small boat we are sailing through the vast ocean of samsara. We are not scared though. We know that our boat is very reliable. Our beloved Gurudeva made it for us. And he gave us the  secret, the guiding star – the mantra of liberation, which will lead us to the spiritual world, where we will attain true happiness and discover the aim and object of our soul.

If you want to go with us – there is still some space in the boat.
