ME-EAT – Book Distribution and Harinama in Guyana

by Vasanti dasi

Vasanti in the market

A few of us went to distribute books and do harinama at the Saturday Market. There were many stalls on both sides of the road and we were able to put a book table there. A couple devotees stayed at the table while Syamarani didi and the other devotees walked around the market distributing books and they stamped all the books with their local address, phone number and email.

Guyana is 30 percent Indian so there were many interested takers of all the varieties of books we had.

We then went on harinama through the vegetable and meat market. Krsnamayi dasi led an enthusiastic kirtan and so many of the shopkeepers were singing along with us and giving donations. I got shocked when they would reach out with laksmi in their hand to give to me. I would then give them a small book in return. I met one devotee from Iskcon and when I offered him a book, he didn’t take it, and then I had a Letters from America and I told him he could have it as a gift and he said, “A gift?” I replied, “Yes, a gift for you.” And he smiled and happily took it.

Thanks to the GVP book sponsorship program, we were able to distribute the mercy to all without having to be in anxiety about getting full price. The sponsorship program will supplement the difference.

When we went through the meat market, it was so intense and such heavy energy. We were all praying so much for the people chopping them up. We sang the maha-mantra and to Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Nityananda prabhu and our merciful Gurudeva as loud as we could.

“I can’t believe how merciful Syamarani didi is by bringing us to this wretched meat market to distribute Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva’s mercy.” – Krsnamayi dasi

Yasoda and her four-year-old sister Haripriya

“I distributed posters and distributed Gurudeva’s books and it felt very good. Even my four year old sister distributed five books.” – Yasoda devi dasi, 9 year old Gurudeva Guyanian disciple

Syamarani didi and Manjari

“When we were doing harinama in the market, I was trying to see who was paying attention to us, I saw a lady staring at us, so I went to give her a book, and she was really mystified and interested in us. She gave a nice donation.” – Manjari dasi, Canada

“I was happy to be on harinama and book distribution. I felt like Gurudeva was pleased with me because it is his desire – he wants his books out there.”– Radha-priya dasa, from Guyana.

    Dandavats Didis,
All glories to your Sankirtan (book distribution with kirtan!)– very inspiring! I see again how enthusiasm and faith in Gurudev’s orders and in Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s mission are more effective than any external factors.
Since I read some of Gurudev’s disciples are from Guyana….did Gurudev ever go there?
