I’ve got great news. One of our students at the cooking class here in Houston recently took Harinama initiation while Srila Gurudeva was last here in Houston.
I’ve got a great Veggie Burger recipe that is simple, quick, cheap and delicious.
Ingredients:
- Soaked split green pea or split yellow channa dahl
- Oats
- Nutritional yeast
- Sweet potatoes
- Braggs
- Coriander powder
- Olive oil
- Hing
- Salt and pepper to taste
Preparation:
Soak the dahl and blend in a food processor until smooth
Blend the oats a little separately to chop up a bit and add roughly equal amount as the dhal to the dhal
Add nearly same amount of nutritional yeast and pre-boiled sweet potatoes until a thick sticky substance that can be formed into patties emerges. Add Krishna’s favorite flavorings and form into veggie burger patties.
Place on oiled tray and bake at 315 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes. When ready to serve, grill them on a skillet until crispy on the outside.
Goes great with Vegganaise and sprouts.

Sure, I was cooking for an outing with our Houston sanga to the beach for a picnic so I made a lot. Here’s the proportions I used that made roughly 50 burger patties:
4 lbs unsoaked channa dhala (or split green pea)
1.5 lbs of nutritional yeast
1.5 lb of oats
8 medium potatoes peeled and boiled (I used half white, half sweet potato)
and the spices according to Krishna’s taste
